Hardtop:
A hardtop is a metal or plastic roof that can be fitted on convertibles or off-road vehicles. Often the roof is painted in the color of the car. A hardtop makes it possible to drive the convertible in winter as well, because it gives the car the same characteristics as a car with a fixed roof. A fabric roof is not always as warm and is very noisy. The hardtop ensures that it is almost identical to a “normal” car. When a hardtop roof is removed, it can be stored, for example, in the shed, after which the soft top can be closed again.
The hardtop is a separate roof that can be mounted on an open car with the roof open by means of mounting clamps. When a hardtop is installed, the convertible top is folded in the trunk. In more luxurious cars, a microswitch detects that the hardtop is fitted and the close button of the convertible top is disabled.
