In a manual or automatic gearbox there are components that provide a gear ratio between the input and output shaft. Between the gearbox and the wheels there are components responsible for the power transmission: the differential allows speed differences between drive shafts, the transfer case provides four-wheel drive when needed, and the drive shafts transfer the movement from the differential to the wheels.
