Acceleration:
Acceleration is another word for ‘speeding up’. When a car accelerates, it is brought from a low speed to a higher speed. For cars, an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km in a number of seconds is often specified.
There are a number of factors that influence a car’s acceleration, namely: engine power, vehicle mass, the speed of shifting gears, the transmission ratio of the gearbox, the rolling resistance of the wheels on the road surface, and air resistance, all of which increase at higher speeds.
Deceleration:
Deceleration is another word for ‘slowing down’. Usually, deceleration is initiated by braking (also called braking deceleration). Deceleration can also be achieved by releasing the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle, due to its own inertia, to slowly come to a stop.
