Door control

Doors (general):
Doors are attached to the body by means of hinges. Between the hinges a door check strap is fitted. Door check straps prevent a door from being opened too far. They also ensure that a door stays in the open position. Door locks make it possible to keep the door in the closed position. Door locks consist of:
– Door guide
– Lock
– Striker plate
By limiting the vertical movement of the door while driving, rattling and wear of the lock and striker plate are reduced.

Door guide:
The door guide guides the door when closing so that the lock easily engages in the striker plate. The lock and striker plate keep the door closed. The lock can be operated from both the inside and outside of the car. A door guide has several functions:
– Guiding the door when closing so that the locking mechanism engages around the striker plate
– Limiting the vertical movement of the door while driving.

Striker plate:
When the door is closed, the lock engages in the striker plate. The design of the lock and striker plate must meet the following requirements:
– The lock must always remain connected to the striker plate, even in case of severe deformation (e.g. during a collision)
– In case of damage to the door and the body, the door must still be capable of being opened.

Locking system:
The door can be opened from the outside using the outside handle. Operating the outside handle releases the lock. From the inside, the door is opened using an inside handle. The transmission from the inside handle to the lock occurs by means of rods. The doors are locked with the lock button. The lock button can be used to block the locking mechanism. The door can then no longer be opened with either the outside or the inside handle.
