Isofix:
Isofix is a mounting system for child seats in the car. With this system, child seats can be attached directly to the bodywork of the vehicle in a simple and safe way. This is much safer than installation with the seat belt, because the seat cannot tilt forwards or sideways. In the image below, you can see a child seat with two mounting points at the back.
These mounting points are clicked onto the Isofix hooks that are attached to the bodywork (see image below). Once locked in place, the child seat is firmly secured to the car. Removing the seat is also easy. After removal, cover caps can be placed over the hooks so that they are no longer visible.
Some vehicles also have Isofix mounting points on the front passenger seat. When a child seat is installed there, the passenger airbag must be deactivated. This can usually be done with the car key via a switch in the glove compartment or on the side of the dashboard.
