Roll bar:
In a convertible, roll bars are installed that serve to protect the occupants. When the car is in danger of rolling over during an accident, these roll bars automatically deploy before the bodywork hits the ground. The bars extend above the rear headrests so that the occupants are protected, provided they are wearing their seat belts.
The images below show what the roll bars look like in their resting position and after activation. Unlike seat belt tensioners, which can only be used once, roll bars are not single‑use. After activation, they can be manually pushed back into their resting position. During a service appointment, they must be controlled with a test unit to verify correct operation.
