Two-tone paint

  • Two-tone paint

Two-tone paint:
Two-tone paint means that a car’s bodywork is sprayed in two different colours. These colours are carefully matched to create a harmonious and eye-catching appearance. A classic example is the Volkswagen Transporter T1, which was often delivered in combinations such as gold-black or red-white, as you can see in the image below.

With two-tone paintwork, there is usually a clear separation between the upper and lower part of the car. Often the roof, bonnet or upper part of the doors is painted in a different colour than the rest of the bodywork. Sometimes we also see that the front and rear of the car have a different colour, as Peugeot has done on certain models. This creates a characteristic, luxurious or retro look, depending on the chosen colour combination.

Applying two-tone paint requires extra craftsmanship. The bodywork must be masked with great precision to achieve sharp lines between the two colours. Manufacturers use special spraying techniques and layers of paint to prevent the colours from bleeding into each other.

Nowadays, two-tone paint is not only used on classic or commercial vehicles, but also increasingly on modern passenger cars and SUVs. Manufacturers use it as a way to give models a distinctive and stylish appearance.
