Engine and Thermodynamics

In engineering we often deal with physical processes (for example the combustion of fuel) and the forces that are released. In this context, the engine specifications (displacement, compression ratio, valve timing, tangential forces) as well as environmental factors determine the torque delivered to the crankshaft. Based on measurements and calculations, one can determine how a combustion process develops (indicator diagram) and can be optimised in order to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust gas emissions.
